a. Rick announced that OSL
has obtained 1500 licenses for Office 2007 for use in OSL libraries. The new
version of the Millennium client (160_02) is available and libraries may
upgrade if they want to, but there is no urgency to do so. It seems to be more
stable and reasonably fast. The new version of the client is available from the
support FTP site. The FTP site has a new address of 204.17.98.40. Also on the
FTP site are a few ghost image ISO files and Symantec Endpoint Protection
Version 11.0.1000.1375. You’ll need to create a firewall rule if you use
SEP with Deep Freeze. Contact Rick for help.
b. Georgene asked if others had
come up with a way to provide printing for wireless users. No one yet had a
system that worked well. Issues involved with offering this service to wireless
users were discussed.
c. Christie asked if it would be
possible for OSL to coordinate a group purchase of flash drives for patrons in
order to keep the cost low.
d. Christine asked Rick about
Champlin Technology Grants. Grant deadline for technology will be April 25th.
Grants should follow the same general process as last year.
e. Chaichin passed around a new
book titled The Joy of Computing. If you Google the title, you will find
it downloadable in its entirety.
V.
