CLAN Minutes: Steering Committee Special Meeting, December 22, 2005

1. CALL TO ORDER
This special meeting of the CLAN Steering Committee was called to order by Chair Kathryn Taylor at 9:45 A.M. at the Warwick Public Library.

Steering Committee members in attendance: Dan Austin, Susan Aylward, Carol Brouwer, John Carney, Shirley Long, Anne Parent, Doug Pearce, Pat Redfearn, Regina Slezak, Kathryn Taylor, Ulla Virks. Absent: Fran Farrell-Bergeron

2. UPDATING CLAN'S ACRONYM
There was a brief discussion of an item, which was mentioned at the previous Steering Committee meeting, that it might be time for CLAN to update its name. Several possibilities were discussed, with RIPLUS (RI Public Library User System) being the current frontrunner in the discussion. This will come up again at the next regular Steering Committee meeting, scheduled for January 12th.

3. ADJOURNED TO EXECUTIVE SESSION
VOTED unanimously to adjourn to Executive Session on a motion by Carol Brouwer, seconded by Ulla Virks.

4. RETURN TO GENERAL SESSION
The Committee returned to general session at 11:05 AM.

5. COBRA BENEFITS FOR CLAN EMPLOYEES
VOTED unanimously to extend COBRA rights to all CLAN employees on a motion by Carol Brouwer, seconded by Regina Slezak.

6. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
The Steering Committee discussed the job description for the Executive Director position that has been drafted by the Ad Hoc Personnel Committee. The job description was approved by the full Steering Committee with a couple of stylistic changes. The Steering Committee discussed the posting of the position and decided to post it the week after Christmas on ALA Hot Jobs, Library Hotline, LORI, and the New England Jobline. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, however, those applications received by February 15th will receive preference. Dan Austin agreed to write the job ad and post it on behalf of the Committee.

7. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 A.M.
